My name is Emily, but I commonly go by Em or Emma! I am turning 27 in April, but I still feel like I am 15 and that I will never grow up. I am a small town girl with big city dreams.
I was born and raised in a small town in Wisconsin (66,000 people) and moved to a tiny town (population 2,800) in the U.P. of Michigan about a year and a half ago. I started Emma Deer at that time as a creative and personal outlet for me. Being a new, tattooed, vegetarian girl in a town filled with older and very much opinionated folk was a *major* adjustment! I wanted a way to stay in touch with my creative self, while sharing bits and pieces of my adventures and photography, keeping in touch with family and maybe, just maybe, meet some cool people with my same interests in the process. I never imagined what an inspirational place Emma Deer would grow into for me and the amazing people I would meet!
I graduated in December 2012 with an Associates in Medical Administration and am blessed to currently work from home for a health care organization that I really support and have always wanted to work for. Despite this, I have always (and will always) have dreams of eventually being self-employed or working for a creative, small business that accepts me for who I am, tattoos and all. I have a passion for vintage and handmade and try to support small businesses whenever I can. I am currently stocking a new Etsy shop focused on bohemian style vintage and handmade goods, which I hope to launch very soon!
